Cevdet Erek nació en 1974 en Estanbul,
donde actualmente vive y trabaja
Cevdet Erek estudió arquitectura en la Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts en Estambul entre 1992 y 1999. Cevdet Erek estudió arquitectura en la Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts en Estambul entre 1992 y 1999. En 2003, ejerciendo como arquitecto y actuando con el grupo de rock Nekropsi, Erek obtuvo un master en ingeniería de sonido y diseño en el Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Música (MIAM) de la Universidad Técnica de Estambul, donde también completó su doctorado.
Su práctica artística está basada en los temas del sonido, la arquitectura, el ritmo, el tiempo medido, la música dance y las obras site-specific. Combinando video, sonido e imagen trata frecuentemente de alterar la percepción del espectador y la experiencia de un ambiente dado. Está particularmente interesado en la manera en que percibimos el mundo a nuestro alrededor y en la forma en que organizamos nuestras vidas a través de las medidas de espacio (sistema métrico), tiempo (calendario y reloj) y el tempo musical (latidos por minuto). El artista mezcla estos sistemas aparentemente objetivos con otros aparentemente más subjetivos, como la línea del tiempo de eventos o el cambio rítmico en las improvisaciones musicales.

Durante su residencia en Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, fue galardonado con el Uriot Prize por su vídeo Studio (2005), así como el Nam June Paik Prize (2012).
