Discover Yoshua Okón and Juan Obando’s latest exhibition Multitud en renta, curated by Magalí Arriola at Museo Espacio Aguascalientes.
The videoinstallation Multitud en renta: DEMO explores the mechanisms of the democratic system, which is greatly supported by practices such as Astroturfing. It consists of managing public demonstrations that are artificial, but seem real, using crowds of actors who play activist roles in order to generate an impression of popular support for a political group, a person or even a product, in order to influence public opinion.
This global phenomenon aroused the interest of Yoshua Okón and Juan Obando, who investigated the way Astroturfing operates in order to create an artwork that frames its repercussions and questions its structure.
