When Falling Feels Like Flying, third solo show of Carlos Motta in Paris

mor charpentier is pleased to invite you to When Falling Feels Like Flying, Carlos Motta’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, on view from November 22, 2025, to January 14, 2026.

Born in 1978 in Bogotá, Colombia, Motta lives and works in New York. His multidisciplinary practice documents the social conditions and political struggles of sexual, gender, and ethnic minority communities, challenging dominant and normative discourses through visibility and self-representation.

In When Falling Feels Like Flying, Carlos Motta asks: “What does it mean to bear witness? Can a witness be more than a bystander? How can we resist in meaningful ways? Who bears witness for the witness?” Through new and recent video, sculpture, photography, and drawing, the exhibition traces “a vicious lineage of expulsion and elimination through to today and Motta continually shifts from witness to subject and back again. We are all joined in this eternal embrace; sometimes we bear the weight, and sometimes we are borne by others. In truth, there is no third position—except to look away. Here Motta presents us with a moral imperative in the face of cruelty: to endure, to resist, to confront, and, ultimately, to protect one another.”
