Congratulations to Teresa Margolles, whose work has been selected for the 2024 Fourth Plinth Commission in Trafalgar Square, London.
Casts of the faces of 850 trans people are to be arranged on all four sides of the plinth, forming her large-scale work 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴 (Imprint). Many of the Mexican artist’s subjects will be sex workers, calling attention to the constant marginalization of the trans community in England and around the world. The work will erode as it is exposed to the elements, washing away traces of genetic material transferred during the casting process and deteriorating individual facial features to create an anti-monument.
