Step into Bianca Bondi at The Marcel Duchamp Prize

Step into the remarkable installations of Bianca Bondi, for the 2025 Marcel Duchamp Prize by @adiaf_o , now on view at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.

Born in 1986 in Johannesburg and based in Paris, Bondi graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy (2012) and WITS University in Johannesburg (2006). Her multidisciplinary practice transforms everyday objects through chemical reactions most often with saltwater. For her, salt is a living, reactive material that carries the memory of places and time, a symbolic and spiritual element that reveals both the fragilities and invisible strengths of our world.

The work presented here takes the form of a house conceived as a temple of protection, a recurring motif at the heart of her practice. Poetic and eco-conscious, her installations function as intimate ecosystems where every object undergoes a process of purification and transformation. Neither nostalgic nor dystopian, they remind us that each trace, deposit, or crystal is at once memory and promise.
