Óscar Muñoz @Les Rencontres d’Arles

Don’t miss Óscar Muñoz’s Alientos and Cortinas de Baño in the latest exhibition from Les Rencontres d’Arles, “Vampires Fear No Looking Glass” at L’église des Trinitaires. Curated by Maria Wills and Andrés Matute Echeverri, this project won the 2023 Rencontres d’Arles Curatorial Research Fellowship.

The exhibition showcases the visual culture of El Grupo de Cali, an influential counterculture movement active in Cali, Colombia, during the 1970s and 1980s. It explores their creative output across various media, focusing on photography, film, and their unique perspective on urban marginality. The exhibition introduces the concept of “Tropical Goth,” a dark and cynical view of life in Cali’s conservative society. It connects El Grupo de Cali’s work and contemporary Colombian artists. Themes of vampirism and gothic aesthetics are used to represent the group’s creative energy and their critical approach to social structures.

“Vampires Fear No Looking Glass” is on view until August 25, 2024.
