Nohemí Pérez and Charwei Tsai @Islamic Art Biennale
January 17, 2025
We are happy to announce that our artists, Nohemí Pérez and Charwei Tsai, will be participating in the Islamic Art Biennale.
The second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale will open in Jeddah from January 25 to May 25, 2025. Organized by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, the Islamic Arts Biennale is the first and only biennale dedicated to the arts of Islamic civilization. It presents historical artifacts and contemporary works together as part of a rich continuum, and will take place at the landmark Aga Khan Award–winning Western Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
For the Biennale, Charwei Tsai will present a newly commissioned work that is in dialogue with a special piece the Louvre will present at the Biennale. Tsai has elaborated a graphic mediation around the plata, which was originally made in the 10th century in the region of Samarkand.
Nohemí Pérez will present Sobre el fondo de mis noches, following her characteristic big scale charcoal drawings with embroidery. The piece continues her exploration gardens with native Colombian flora and fauna, which in turn will be in dialogue with native flora and fauna from Saudi Arabia.
Curated by Muhannad Shono, Jaffer Amin and Joanna Chevalier, the Biennale will open January 25, 2025. Don’t miss it!
