New exhibition Masques et sortilèges mor charpentier Paris

We are thrilled to invite you to our summer exhibition Masques et sortilèges, opening on the 5th of July. This grand group exhibition presents a transversal appearance of masks and spells bringing together eighteen international artists whose works engage with memory, the sacred, the living, power, and history.

What are masks for ? Objects of protection, concealment, transformation, or power, masks are never neutral. They embody far more than a face: they are memory, ritual, metamorphosis, and resistance. To wear a mask is sometimes to escape oneself, but also to carry the memory of another, to defy norms, or to summon the invisible. Since Antiquity, masks have traveled through the history of art in many forms—at times sacred, at times subversive, magical, political, or grotesque.

The exhibition Masques et Sortilèges (Mask and Spells) explores these different dimensions of the mask through different approaches and narratives that find a way to deliver the footprint of remembrance, rituality, anthropomorphism and zoomorphism among others.
