Marwa Arsanios @Asian Art Biennial

We are pleased to announce that Marwa Arsanios’ work is part of the Asian Art Biennial, How to Hold your Breath.

The Biennial aims to withdraw from the spheres of visibility and systems perpetuating violence, to make space for opacity from which new forms of agency can emerge. It questions the universal notions of time, showcasing instead histories that are tied to people, places and positions. The title refers to the moment before jumping to an uncertain future, to voluntarily pausing a vital function, creating a sense of anticipation.

Featuring Who Is Afraid of Ideology?, Who is Afraid of Ideology? Part 4: Reverse Shot, Untitled (Tapestry 1 and 4), and Resilient Weeds, Arsanios reconsiders the political development of the second half of the twentieth century from a contemporary perspective, focusing on gender relations, collectivism, urbanism and industrialization. Her research work includes many disciplines and is deployed in numerous collaborative projects.
