Lugar a Dudas in Venice 61st Biennale

Lugar a Dudas @lugaradudas , the independent art space founded in Cali, Colombia, in 2004 by Óscar Muñoz and Sally Mizrachi, is featured in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. @labiennale

Based on the logic and poetics of various practices that centre on the confrontation of two or more bodies, such as boxing, capoeira, and machete fencing, Lugar a dudas presents a choreography of images and text arising from these confrontational practices. This project offers insights for enriching the understanding of encounter, listening, respect, otherness, struggle, dialogue, and difference.

Although these practices may appear violent, they are in fact built on the principle of not annihilating the opponent, but rather proposing alternative ways to think about what an encounter is, and what it means to be with one another. This is showcased through a multimedia projection that functions as a visual essay, accompanied by a text that poses questions—rather than assertions, postulates, or formulas. In doing so, the project honours what Lugar a dudas values in its very name: a space for doubt.

While this exhibition is presented at the Biennale, Lugar a dudas is concurrently holding a public programme in Cali. This local initiative includes physical practices from these and other disciplines, alongside a theoretical programme related to the notion of interconnection and other ethical notions that can be learned through listening to the otherness of more-than-human entities.
