Daniel Otero Torres @Biennale de Lyon

The Biennale de Lyon Manifiesto of fragility has opened, and this year we are proud to announce that Daniel Otero Torres is presenting one of his latest and most relevant works: an installation which opens onto a reproduction of the Monumento Los Héroes, a freedom fighter memorial and space for resistance and expression in Bogotá, where large numbers of demonstrators gathered during protests and strikes before it was brutally destroyed in September 2021.

Inside he has arranged an ensemble of sculptures comprising fountains made from reclaimed materials; precarious constructions that were previously makeshift accommodation; and hand-drawn pictures on aluminum and steel. This work melds private recollections and collective memory, imagining new strategies of resistance and resilience through the force of unity and the common values shared within various groups.
