Faces formed in charcoal drift away with water, reflections vanish in the palm of a hand, and portraits painted with water evaporate before they can fully materialize. Through these transient processes, the artist reveals the impossibility of fixing identity, memory, and history into permanent forms.

For decades, Muñoz’s practice has investigated the relationship between image, identity, and remembrance through photography, drawing, printmaking, painting, and video. Since the early 2000s, video has become central to his work, allowing him to document the unstable nature of his materials and foreground disappearance itself as both a visual and political condition.

Curated by Matheus de Andrade, the exhibition is on view until June 21, 2026. @matheusaac

Video room : Óscar Muñoz on view at MASP, brings together three video works by Oscar Muñoz.
